  • How can I restore my smile without extensive reconstruction?

Resin and porcelain onlays and inlays allow patients to keep more of their own natural tooth, a huge benefit to baby boomers living longer. Placement of inlays and onlays are creative alternatives to routine fillings and more invasive crowns conserving the remaining natural tooth.

  • I see many dentists list cosmetic dentistry as one of the services that they provide. Aren't all dentists the same?

Almost all dentists provide and advertise that they perform some amount of cosmetic dentistry to the level that their education and skill permits.

From houses to cars to vacations, there is a big variation in the quality of what we purchase -- and the same applies when selecting a dentist. Patients should visit several dentists on a consultation basis to determine the education level, skill and accomplishments of the dentist.

Interview a dentist just like you would any other person that you are considering hiring. Ask to see 50-100 completed cases in photographs and then determine if you would be happy with the quality of treatment that you have seen. Also look for ?letters of appreciation? that satisfied patients have sent to the dentist expressing their thanks.

  • How do I change my smile without braces?

Porcelain veneers create magnificent smiles. These small, thin and beautifully created pieces of porcelain, when bonded to teeth are remarkably strong. Veneers can whiten teeth and improve alignment and contour.

  • What are Cosmetic mockups?

Cosmetic mockups allow patients to envision "smile" possibilities while providing a personalized "smile" design. This enables each patient to make an informed decision regarding his or her course of treatment. These resin previews are applied cosmetically for a patient without administering Novocain or removing any tooth structure. We see people having treatment on Extreme Makeover but we always ask ourselves." How will it look on ME?" Temporary resin mockups will permit you to see a preview of the possibilities for cosmetic dentistry in you own mouth. This 10 minute procedure which is completely painless is a very valuable tool to help you decide on whether to have cosmetic treatment.

  • How can I whiten my teeth and make my smile sparkle?

Bleaching teeth is one of the best values for improving a smile. How white teeth become after bleaching is dependent on how dark the teeth are to begin with. The best systems of bleaching are "at home kits" provided by dentists such as Dr. Benjamin.

Though shows like "Extreme Makeover" suggest using in-office bleaching, there is no evidence to support that dentist in-office bleaching equals the results of at home bleaching.*

Bleaching alone may not satisfy your cosmetic needs and veneers may be needed to take you to level of beauty and function that you are looking for.

*Note: The dentist on Extreme Makeover is the President of the ZOOM IN OFFICE BLEACHING SYSTEM - so you can expect that he will claim that Zoom is the best system. There is no evidence, based on research at all major dental schools, to support this claim.
